The DC Breeze have announced today the signings of Chuck Cantone, Matthew McDonnell and Tyler Monroe for the 2016 season. Both Monroe and McDonnell are members of top men’s DC club team, Truck Stop. Cantone joins the Breeze with AUDL experience thanks to his prominent role with the Montréal Royal in 2014.
A Cutter, Cantone’s ultimate experience includes two Canadian Ultimate Championship finals with Montréal area club teams and an appearance at the 2010 World Ultimate Club Championships in Prague. Cantone spent the 2014 AUDL season with fellow East Division members Montréal Royal, and he is looking forward to bringing this experience to the nation’s capital.
“The organizational leadership and coaching are both first-class, and the team will be formidable and fun for the foreseeable future,” Cantone said. “I could not be more excited to make my return to the league with the DC Breeze.”
Hybrid Matthew “Rowan” McDonnell comes to the Breeze with plenty of elite Ultimate experience, spending this past summer playing with DC’s Truck Stop. When not playing, McDonnell coaches the women’s team at American University. McDonnell joins the Breeze excited about the organization, saying, “I have had my heart set on the Breeze for a while. This organization is exciting from the top down, from the enthusiasm of the owner Don Grage to the talented players coming together on this 2016 roster. And having a world-class coach like Dutchy is another huge draw.”
Though only a junior at George Washington University, hybrid Tyler Monroe brings a lot of talent and experience to the 2016 Breeze roster. A member of the 2015 Truck Stop team that made it to the quarterfinals at club nationals this year, the Seattle native hopes to use this experience to take the Breeze to a whole new level.
“I’m excited to play under a renowned coach like Dutchy, and to continue to play with the amazing players of the DMV area,” said Monroe. “I want the Breeze to be known nationwide as the best team in the AUDL East.”
