Home Playoff Game Friday Aug 11: Breeze vs Montréal

PLAYOFF TICKETS

For the third time in four years the Breeze finished 10-4 and earned a spot in the AUDL Playoffs. And for the second straight year, that record is good enough to earn a #2 seed and 1st round home playoff game. #3 seed Montréal Royal (9-5) will come to town August 11 for a Friday evening battle starting at 7pm. The winner of that game will head north the next morning to face the #1 seed Toronto Rush (11-3) at 1pm on Sunday, August 13 for the right to represent the East Division at AUDL Championship VI August 26-27 in Montréal.

Last season the #2 seed Breeze beat #3 the New York Empire 24-20 in DC, and then took Toronto to overtime in the division title game before eventually falling in a heartbreaker to the Rush, 23-21. The Rush began play in 2013 and have won the East Division title every year since — last year’s title game being by far the closest they’ve come to being overtaken for the coveted spot at Championship Weekend. Oddsmakers say they’ll do it again this year, as Toronto (5:1) leads the odds for an overall league championship among East playoff teams over DC (12:1) and Montréal (20:1) according to Ultiworld.

The Breeze and Montréal faced off twice this year with each team winning their home game and the Royal taking a slight series edge with a +1 goal differential:

  • May 20 in DC: Breeze 23, Royal 20
  • June 17 in Montréal: Royal 27, Breeze 23

The teams faced each other three times last season, twice in Montréal, with the Breeze taking two of three including a 26-18 road win May 1st on the back end of a two-game road trip. The lifetime results between these two squads slightly favor the Breeze with a 5-4 record and 217-196 goal advantage despite the Royal hosting five of the nine games. Lifetime head-to-head results in DC amount to a 3-1 record and 96-79 goal advantage for the Breeze.

We proudly welcome the American Ultimate Academy to our playoff game! The Academy has done a terrific job of hosting our youth clinics before every game this year, and although we cannot host a youth clinic August 11 due to field time constraints, AUA will still be there to talk with kids about Ultimate, their camps, etc. Please stop by and say hello!
