This event is equal opportunity with all ethnicities and genders welcome. It is an opportunity for all interested parties to experience several hours of valuable, elite level ultimate training and experience, while providing our coaching staff the opportunity to identify the best players among all those who come out and offer them a spot on the 2019 Breeze roster. We expect that approximately 16 spots on the 2019 Breeze roster will be available to tryout participants. Whether or not you eventually make the team or even have a reasonable chance to make the team this year, you will be exposed to a ton of valuable information and experience about what it takes to play elite level ultimate: training techniques for peak performance, proper warmups, high level drills, offensive and defensive positioning and strategies, etc.

Matthew “Rowan” McDonnell, Breeze Captain and winner of the 2018 AUDL MVP Award, will be presenting “Train To Be an MVP” during the mid-afternoon break February 16. Rowan will share his story on how he rose from virtually no experience to a top player in just a few years. He plans to cover the most important aspects of training that allowed him to find this unparalleled success.

Head Coach Darryl Stanley will lead the tryout process. Stanley returns for his third season after two successful campaigns at the helm of the Breeze. He led the team to a playoff berth in both of his first two seasons, and has also been named an assistant coach of the USA men’s 2019 U-24 national team.

Please Join Us February 16!

Our staff is deeply committed to making this event a valuable learning experience for anyone very serious about the sport who wants to take his or her game to a higher level both physically and mentally, be it for college, club or pro ultimate. Join us — let’s strengthen the DMV Ultimate Community across the board!

2016 tryouts
  • You must be 18 years or older on February 16, 2019 in order to participate in the tryouts. Please bring a photo id, water bottle, rubber cleats, and both a dark and white shirt with the same number if possible.
  • If driving, please allow a few extra minutes to find a spot and get to the field.
  • This event is open to the public. All are welcome to come out and observe the tryouts 1pm-5pm at no charge.

Additional Info

Subsequent invitation-only tryout/practices will take place Feb 23 12-4pm at Ridge Road Recreation Center and Feb 24 10-2pm at Trinidad Recreation Center, after which the team will set the final 36-player extended official+practice roster. By league rule only 20 can be named to the active roster for each game. All players not named to the 20-player active roster for any particular game will still be considered part of the team throughout the entire season and encouraged to participate in all practices as well as attend games on the sideline with the team.

Thanks, and we hope to see you February 16!

Head Coach Darryl Stanley
