FREE PRE-GAME YOUTH CLINICS ANNOUNCED BY THE DC BREEZE AND WAFC
Taught by Breeze players and guest instructors
Washington, D.C. – Calling all young ultimate enthusiasts! The DC Breeze announced today that they will host free pre-game youth ultimate clinics during the 2015 season. With the help of the Washington Area Frisbee Club (WAFC), the DC Breeze will engage participants 18 and under in 45-60 minute clinics starting about 90 minutes before each home game begins.
DC Breeze players will teach during these free clinics, and guests from the DC ultimate community will make special appearances as well. The goal of these pre-game clinics is to help ultimate grow and gain legitimacy as a sport throughout the DC-Baltimore area. Repeat participation in the clinics is encouraged so that youths can improve their ultimate skills throughout the AUDL season. The DC Breeze and WAFC will reward players who are the most engaged and best express the “Spirit of the Game.”
“Ultimate teaches good sportsmanship and teamwork,” says Don Grage, co-owner of the DC Breeze. “It is important for our youth to learn these concepts so that they can continue to spread the ‘Spirit of the Game’ throughout their entire lives.”
The DC Breeze and WAFC worked together on youth initiatives last year:
- The DC Breeze hosted their first free pre-game youth clinic on July 5th, 2014 before their last home game of the season. About 30 children participated in the clinic led by Breeze players at the University of Maryland. The participants enjoyed learning new ultimate tips and playing on the official 2014 Breeze home field.
- During halftime at a 2014 home game, the WAFC Jr. YCC team and the School Without Walls High School (D.C.) played an exhibition game as a WAFC Jr. fundraiser. Additionally, Yorktown High School (Arlington) scrimmaged at another 2014 game.
The DC Breeze and WAFC encourage the youth community to adopt ultimate as a competitive, fun, non-contact sport. “Our team prides itself on sharing our love for ultimate with everyone,” says DC Breeze co-owner Aaron Foreman. “We want children to learn competitiveness through this safe and exciting non-contact sport.”
According to WAFC Board Member Rob Luhrs, “We’re excited about this opportunity because the more clinics and joint initiatives we can do with organizations like the Breeze, the better we are able to serve our mission of supporting and growing the sport.”
Ultimate is rapidly growing in the youth community, and the free clinics taught by Breeze players before games are designed to entice more young, determined players to join.

The 2,800-member Washington Area Frisbee Club (WAFC) is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to promoting flying disc sports in the Washington DC metropolitan area.
