Only one team in the East Division won their season series against the DC Breeze during the 2017 campaign. The Montréal Royal bested the Breeze by a one-goal margin after both teams won their home contest. In fact, that one loss in Montréal ended up being the determining factor for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

For the third time in four years the Breeze finished 10-4 and earned a spot in the AUDL Playoffs. And for the second straight year, that record is good enough to earn a #2 seed and 1st round home playoff game. #3 seed Montréal Royal (9-5) will come to town August 11 for a Friday evening battle starting at 7pm. The winner of that game will head north the next morning to face the #1 seed Toronto Rush (11-3) at 1pm on Sunday, August 13 for the right to represent the East Division at AUDL Championship VI August 26-27 in Montréal. In the final game of the 2017 regular season for the DC Breeze, mid-season addition Joe Freund shined brightly. Leading the team with four goals and matching the team-high of three assists, Freund was was the key element of the Breeze’s 23-20 win over the Philadelphia Phoenix.
The final AUDL standings are set following the conclusion of regular season play this past weekend. In addition, with the final standings confirmed, the dates and opponents of the two Eastern Division playoff contests have been announced as well.
Going through playoff scenarios is one of the most entertaining pastimes in sports. It’s no different when it comes to the AUDL. The playoff picture in the East became a bit clearer after the Toronto Rush defeated the Montreal Royal 28-20 in Toronto Saturday evening to secure their spot in the postseason, but first, second and third place are all still up for grabs with only two weeks remaining.
