In the final game of the 2017 regular season for the DC Breeze, mid-season addition Joe Freund shined brightly. Leading the team with four goals and matching the team-high of three assists, Freund was was the key element of the Breeze’s 23-20 win over the Philadelphia Phoenix.
One point may be a difference maker when this season is all said and done for the DC Breeze. No, not one point that a player gets injured. Not one point that decided the game, perhaps not even the double overtime point over the New York Empire.
This weekend the Breeze travel to the Montreal Royal (6-4) on Saturday and the Ottawa Outlaws (2-5) on Sunday. Heading north of the border for the final time in the regular season, the DC Breeze have a chance to sweep two teams and clinch a playoff berth. Winning both would also put the team at nine wins, enough to clinch a playoff spot. Accomplishing this, though, will be a tough task considering…
Returning back to division play, the D.C. Breeze needed to find consistency with a tough stretch of the schedule on deck for the team. They had a great opportunity to do so Saturday as they returned home to face the Ottawa Outlaws; a team that has yet to be a threat but always provides solid competition with two 7-7 seasons so far.
After an eventful week of signings, the DC Breeze 2017 roster is now at its February pre-tryout target. Over the last ten days, six players have joined this year’s squad. The team is excited to welcome back a handful of returning players and add some fresh faces. This wave of signings brings the team’s roster to 20. Open Tryouts for the remaining roster positions will take place Sunday, March 5.
