The Washington Area Frisbee Club (WAFC) sent four teams to the USA Ultimate Youth Club Championships in Blaine, Minnesota over this past weekend. Overall, the teams went way beyond expectations and proved to the rest of the country what incredible young talent is emerging here in the DC area. The U20 Girls team DC Rogue upset both the #1 and #2 seeds on the way to a spot in the national final game before finishing 2nd.DC Rogue is co-coached by longtime Scandal and USA player Jenny Fey along with Julia Petro, assisted by Fred Wolf.

U17 Boys team Capitol Heights (coached by $5k Toss winner Dave Ohls, assisted by Breeze player Joe Freund, Jake Radack and Duncan Fitzgerald) finished 3rd among 20 teams; U20 Boys team Foggy Bottom Boys (Head Coach Kevin Riley, Assistants Michael Klemencic, Matthew Scallet) finished 6th among 30 teams; and finally U20 Mixed team and 2-time defending national champs Swing Vote (Co-Coaches Geoff Horsfield, Grace Relf) started slowly but finished strong with two straight victories and a 9th place finish.

The # 1 seed U20 Girls from Seattle were not only 12-time defending champs, but we understand they had never lost a game in the 13 year history of the tournament before falling to DC Rogue in the quarterfinals yesterday. And then rather than suffer a letdown, Rogue managed to go on and defeat #2 in the semifinals. What an accomplishment.
