The DC Breeze, E.R.I.C. and the AUDL teamed up over the past week for two terrific DC middle school clinics: June 5 at Jefferson Academy, and June 9 at Takoma Education Campus. All in all there were about 250 kids in total, and they were fantastic. Thanks to all our players and interns who helped out, and of course to both schools for their wonderful hospitality!
The DC Breeze beat the Philadelphia Phoenix yesterday evening, 26-20 in Conshohocken, PA. DC stormed through a strong 2nd quarter, turning a 7-8 Q1 deficit into a 19-14 halftime lead they would not relinquish, instead stretching their lead to as high as 8 en route to an eventual 6-point victory. A big welcome to Antoine Davis and Troy Holland, two brand new members of the Breeze squad! Antoine, an Arlington native, comes to the Breeze directly off a successful college season in which he captained Virginia Tech. Troy hails from Wisconsin and plays his college ultimate at Georgetown alongside Breeze teammate Nico Lake, with whom he will co-captain Georgetown’s Catholic Justice men’s team next season. The Breeze finished their two-game road trip on a high note today with a last-minute victory over the Rochester Dragons, 26-25. A Jon Pressimone D followed quickly by Dan Selwyn’s throw for a Brad Scott goal gave the Breeze the lead, then Andrew Allen sealed the victory with a huge D before the Breeze ran out the last few seconds to clinch it.
The Eastern Division leading Toronto Rush overcame the DC Breeze tonight in Toronto, 33-21. DC showed far more grit and determination in the den of last year’s AUDL finalists than in their Game 1 performance at home, but in the end the Rush emerged with a victory that was never really in question after they got off to a multi-goal lead to open the contest.
