The Georgetown University Women’s Ultimate team enjoyed another successful ultimate tournament, charity event and fundraiser with their 2017 Angel Tree Book Dive Tournament November 19th on the National Mall polo fields. The event collected more than 150 books for the Georgetown Angel Tree Book Drive and DC Books to Prisons Project, and also raised >$2500 for the team’s upcoming season.
There are a lot of parallels between the 2017 DC Breeze squad and the one from 2016. In addition to having the same record and ending the season in a similar fashion, the team scored virtually the same number of goals. D.C. had 392 this past season and 396 in 2016, a franchise high.
This past weekend was a tale of the entire 2017 season for the DC Breeze. A dominant offensive unit that is nearly unstoppable at home, and a team that struggles to piece together consistency on the road. The conditions and the outcomes were polar opposites in the two playoff games over the weekend.
DC Breeze at Toronto Rush

Ever since the end of the 2016 season, there has been one goal on the mind of DC Breeze players: take the division from the Toronto Rush. The Breeze will get that chance Sunday at 1:00pm ET when they once again take on Toronto with the East Division title in the balance.
Only one team in the East Division won their season series against the DC Breeze during the 2017 campaign. The Montréal Royal bested the Breeze by a one-goal margin after both teams won their home contest. In fact, that one loss in Montréal ended up being the determining factor for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
The Washington Area Frisbee Club (WAFC) sent four teams to the USA Ultimate Youth Club Championships in Blaine, Minnesota over this past weekend. Overall, the teams went way beyond expectations and proved to the rest of the country what incredible young talent is emerging here in the DC area. In the final game of the 2017 regular season for the DC Breeze, mid-season addition Joe Freund shined brightly. Leading the team with four goals and matching the team-high of three assists, Freund was was the key element of the Breeze’s 23-20 win over the Philadelphia Phoenix.
The 2017 season is almost over. There is only one game separating the DC Breeze from the end of the regular season. Fortunately for the Breeze, there will at least be two more games with a playoff berth clinched this past weekend. In that victory, DC maintained consistency that has led them to their 9-4 record at this point season: offensive dominance and constant defensive pressure.
For the second straight season and the third time in franchise history, the DC Breeze are heading to the playoffs.
