Things did not go well for the DC Breeze in their first trip north of the border this season. Falling to the Toronto Rush 26-20 for the seventh time in a row on the road, the Breeze still have never solved the division champs in Toronto and have dropped to second place in the AUDL East standings.
The Montréal Royal will host AUDL Championship Weekend 2017, so they’re on a mission to represent the East at the event. It’s only the fifth game of the Breeze season, and it is already time to start looking at rematches. The D.C. Breeze head north of the border this weekend to face the Toronto Rush, a team seeking vengeance after being embarrassed in DC back in April. The Breeze have never won in Toronto. Returning back to division play, the D.C. Breeze needed to find consistency with a tough stretch of the schedule on deck for the team. They had a great opportunity to do so Saturday as they returned home to face the Ottawa Outlaws; a team that has yet to be a threat but always provides solid competition with two 7-7 seasons so far.
Matching his career high in goals, Tyler Monroe had yet another stellar performance for the DC Breeze at Hotchkiss Field Saturday night. With seven goals and five assists, Monroe could not be stopped by the visiting Ottawa Outlaws as the Breeze cruised to a 29-24 win.
The Breeze started off the 2017 season on a high-note, beating 4-time defending division champions Toronto Rush, 32-21. Tyler Monroe, a 2016 rookie, has signed a new contract with the DC Breeze for the 2017 season. One of the squad’s youngest yet most impactful members, Monroe first began playing ultimate in Seattle as a middle schooler and hasn’t put down the disc since. DC Breeze players and staff, along with Kelly Ross of elite DC mixed team Ambiguous Grey, spent two days at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA teaching Ultimate skills and techniques in clinics for each of the six 9th grade P.E. classes.
