Chuck Cantone and Jeff Wodatch, two linchpin players from the DC Breeze 2016 roster, have re-signed for the 2017 season.
An all-around strong cutter, Cantone returns to the Breeze for his third AUDL season after starting his career with the Montreal Royal in 2014. This past season Cantone split his 260 points of playing time evenly between offense and defensive lines, reliably making plays on both sides of the disc.
He scored 25 goals* in 2016, 3rd highest on the team. Cantone was the only player on the entire squad to play in all 16 games this year, which earned him an AUDL Steel Spirit Award. And who could forget his game-clinching Callahan against the Empire?
Wodatch was named to the All-AUDL 2nd Team at the close of the 2016 season. Known for his precision deep cutting, Wodatch led the Breeze with 45 goals, coincidentally also his jersey number. On the 37 occasions when a deep shot couldn’t quite stretch him into the endzone, Wodatch was happy to assist the score, rivaling teammate Markham Shofner’s 38 thrown goals. Wodatch finished the season with 335 points played, a single point behind Rowan McDonnell’s team-leading 336.
Wodatch looks forward to sharing the field with Cantone in 2017. “After Chuck almost single-handedly beat my club team at Regionals, I can’t wait to play on a team with him again.”
“Signing with the DC Breeze again is both humbling and exhilarating. Breeze games were so much fun last year that I don’t want to miss a single game in 2017! Thanks to the fans and everyone in the organization for their support,” said Cantone upon execution of his new contract.
Wodatch echoed his excitement, “I think the Breeze has gotten better every season so far. I’m really looking forward to continuing that trend.”
Both Cantone and Wodatch were decisive players in 2016, a season that was easily the most successful in the short history of the Breeze. We are very excited to have them both back for 2017.
