Georgetown Finds Success with 2017 Angel Tree Book Dive Tournament

The Georgetown University Women’s Ultimate team enjoyed another successful ultimate tournament, charity event and fundraiser with their 2017 Angel Tree Book Dive Tournament November 19th on the National Mall polo fields. The event collected more than 150 books for the Georgetown Angel Tree Book Drive and DC Books to Prisons Project, and also raised >$2500 for the team’s upcoming season.

Team Finkle is Einhorn including former Breeze players Andrew Allen and Jarnail Bajwa took home the championship, and team Are You My Mother? won the Spirit Award and ran off with free passes to Breeze Opening Day 2018 for each team member. The Are You My Mother? roster included 2017 Breeze players Joe Freund, Zach Norrbom and Jeff Wodatch, along with contributing Breeze photographer Sydney Kane and videographer Cody Johnston.

Tournament organizers Eva Lucchino and Stephanie Prussick had this to say about the tournament…

We are happy to announce that our 15th annual Angel Tree Book Dive was a success! Despite some wind, last Sunday, November 19th, was a beautiful day for frisbee and fundraising! Twelve teams, representing club, college, and high school teams from the greater DC area, came out to compete on the National Mall for the Championship and the more coveted Spirit Award (and have a great time).

This year’s Book Dive champion, Finkle is Einhorn, beat out Are You Mother? in a fun and competitive game with a final score of 13-6. Are You My Mother? is perhaps the true winner as they won the Spirit Award with an average score of 19.3!

We raised over $2,500 for Georgetown’s Women’s Ultimate, which will allow us to compete in tournaments throughout the region this coming spring season. We also collected over 150 books for the Georgetown Angel Tree Book Drive and the DC Books to Prisons Project.

We cannot thank you and the DC Breeze enough for your publicity of our program on the Breeze’s website and social media and your generous donation of 2018 DC Breeze Opening Day Tickets. Your continued support of our program is a demonstration of how incredibly generous the DC ultimate community and how committed the Breeze is to promoting the sport at every level. We cannot thank you enough for your contributions to help promote women’s ultimate and literacy in the DC area.  Thank you again, and we look forward to working with you in the future!
