Georgetown University Magazine Features The Breeze

The Georgetown University Magazine’s Fall 2017 edition features an article on the DC Breeze and its many connections with the university and alumni.

The print edition briefly tells the story of the sport, the Breeze, and its university connections, while the online story gets into much more depth including a university-produced video and quotes from GU alumni Breeze players Matt KerriganBrian MarshallTroy Holland and Nico Lake. The story also includes perspectives from Georgetown/Breeze athletic trainer Katharine Gray and team majority owner / Georgetown alum Don Grage. Georgetown Magazine is published quarterly and has a circulation of more than 150,000, consisting largely of alumni and university affiliates.

ONLINE STORY: CATCH THE BREEZE

Excerpts from online version…

“This team has an amazing connection to Georgetown,” Kerrigan adds. Since the Breeze was introduced in 2013, about 15 alumni have played or been on the staff, including three alumni on this year’s roster. Breeze athletic trainer, Katherine Gray, is the trainer for the whole club sports program at Georgetown.”

Player Troy Holland (C’16) says “It’s really the people who bring me back to the game on top of the competitive nature of the sport. It’s really nice to be on a team and have other Georgetown players on it,” he adds, noting that Kerrigan was his captain his first year at Georgetown and coach his second.

Nico Lake (F’16) played two seasons—2015 and 2016—with the Breeze as an undergraduate, in addition to playing on the Georgetown club team. “The Breeze is a great competitive experience that challenges you in a different way than college Ultimate,” he says, adding that his time with the Breeze used leadership and management skills he learned on the club level.

The Breeze have featured Georgetown players and the school’s ultimate teams in several posts over the years, such as when the women’s team was highlighted in our #WonderWomanWednesday series, and when the men’s and women’s teams worked together to win our college challenge! We’ll also give a shout out here to Georgetown graduate Steven Wartinbee, who made valuable contributions as a team writer/editor 2014-2015.
